IPPC Certification Program

The International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM # 15) regulates the use of wood packaging in international trade. Wood packaging is defined as pallets, boxes, and crates etc., anything that has lumber in it. Any lumber used in these forms of packaging must be heat treated to a core temperature of 56°C for 30 minutes to kill unwanted pests.

The Canadian Wood Packaging Certification Program was created and is administered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Companies are registered under this program to certify that their products meets the ISPM # 15 requirements. The Canadian Wood Pallet and Container Association have been contracted by the CFIA to inspect registered companies and ensure their products meet specifications.
