All personal responsible for the
production of wood pallets, boxes/crates or those
who are responsible for processing certified wood
packaging for export. All company sales persons and
purchasing agents that are marking their wooden
pallets or wood packaging with the IPPC-ISPM 15
stamp for export.
All company managers or owners that
want to gain knowledge of this program. It is not
simply a program to slap a stamp on two opposite
sides it has many ramifications that must be
understood before you can qualify as an expert to
your customer.
Associate suppliers should attend
who are interested in meeting potential customers to
supply lumber, stamps, software program or machines.
Why
Should You Attend?
This is the most significant program
ever developed for the shipping of manufactured
product to a foreign port of entry. This program
guarantees the recognition of our wood packaging as
certified and to be accepted into any IPPC country
of origin.
Over 140 International Plant Protection Convention
countries have signed onto this program and have now
or will soon implement an import and export program.
We must all work to protect the integrity of this
program and guarantee that those wanting to promote
and build this program have that right.

Softwood
& Hardwood Lumber Report – Present & Future Trends
Softwood Report - Hardwood Report
Our main commodity has lost strength
in the past six months and soon, due to closures of
mills in the forest industry, we may be faced with a
shortage and increase in pricing. This meeting will
invite two prominent lumber speakers to discuss this
possibly situation.
CWPCP -ISPM 15 Monitoring,
Changes, and Opportunities
HT material in kiln for in-house use & resale to
Registered Facilities
The new D-01-05 does now allows Kiln owners that are
registered on the CFIA website, to heat treat lumber, both
used and new (green), to utilize HT material for their own
manufacturer of wood packaging or for other certified
registered facilities.
We will discuss this option and help
everyone assess and understand options open if they purchase
a kiln or simply use HT lumber from a mill or broker.
Cessation or Termination
of the Bi Lateral Agreement – USA & Canada
Every registered facility and member of this association has
been informed by letter and in the newsletter that the USDA
is speaking and meeting to terminate the bi lateral
agreement between Canada and the USA.
The cessation of this agreement has many
companies trying to understand whether the termination of
this agreement will benefit or harm their company and the
way they do business with their consumers.
At this meeting Jean-Luc Poupart will present the reasoning
behind the termination of the bi lateral agreement and the
USDA’s determination to cancel this agreement. This open
discussion will assist our government in understand how to
best negotiate the control of the removal of this agreement.
CWPCP/CHTWPCP Open discussion –
Program Questions and Answers
Do we now require an
"Environmental Policy Statement for Sustainable Packaging”
or “Carbon Footprint” for the wooden pallet/packaging?
It is becoming very evident that our large North American
and International companies are looking for the wooden
pallet/wood packaging industry to supply them with an
“Environmental Policy Statement for Sustainable Packaging”.
Is time we commenced the work on a Carbon
Footprint for our commodity and the green positive message
we can promote?
Many of our larger consumers (Wal Mart,
Costco, IBM) are looking to provide the world with a
positive carbon footprint of all packaging material used by
their company and suppliers.
Emerald Ash Bore
Regulation – Policy Directive D-03-08
EAB Spreading in Ontario on Firewood, Nursery Stock and Wood
Packaging. EAB has now been detected in Toronto when many
thought we had this pest surrounded in SW Ontario. Let’s get
the most up to date information and how it will affect our
industry. [reasoning behind the cessation of the bi lateral
agreemtn]
“Heat Treatment Options
for Wood Packaging Materials” How does this work for you?
Peter Garrahan, FPInnovations - Forintek Division has agreed
to discuss the lifting of the requirement of PI-07 for all
kilns and offer our industry a probe alternative.
The compliance to PI-07 has been called a
trade barrier by some and many are hoping for a quick
response to allow them to simply use probes to verify that
the material in their kiln meets or surpasses the 56° for 30
minutes to the core requirement.
Peter wishes to generate some discussion on
the type of chambers people have purchased (or are
considering) and what type of monitoring requirements they
would be comfortable with?
Ontario Ministry of Labour
– Initiative for 2008
Theresa Frachette, Theresa Frechette Safety Consulting
Services will attend to announce the Ontario Ministry of
Labour’s initiative for 2008. Last year the main initiative
was ERGONOMICS – the twisting and turning of the employee
within his/her workstation. This year they have captures
another initiative and Mrs. Frachette will discuss this with
the delegates and the options available to meet this
challenge.
